The other side: Gates & Seinfeld

November 1st, 2008 Bobby Alexander No comments

I read it in the papers but never actually got to see it. They never play the original Microsoft ads on Indian television. Third world country, LOTS of pirates. I can relate.

While I was searching the net for Windows 7 details I stumbled upon the ads on, where else, but at Microsoft.com. If you want few of minute of mental numbness you can find it here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/gates-and-seinfeld.aspx

The first ad shows Bill and Jerry in a discounts shoes store. The second richest man in the world in a discount store. That was a riot! The other ad shows them living in with a family so that they can connect with ‘real people’ (read as people who don’t earn a million bucks a month)

Either my grey cells are decreasing in efficiency or maybe I am too dense;  either way I didn’t get both the ads. And I don’t think many people who saw the ads on TV did either. I would like to see the marketing idiot who though it up and sock him one on the face. And to think that these ads were supposed to be in response to Apple’s ads that make fun of Windows. (You should see the ‘I’m a PC ad’; not all that great if you ask me). Its no wonder that Microsoft decided to put a leash on the ads. I mean what were they thinking? Jerry Seinfeld? (a balding one at that). Ok, I admit, the shows were great. But that was in the 80’s! And where is the fat guy? (I forgot his name) Not to mention the fact that there was no humor in it unless you think Gates doing a robo was funny!

Microsoft; here is some free advice: Put your ad money into the Vista burial fund and give us back XP while you are at it.
