LG and Htc should be launching it shortly in India. Check the MS store india for more details.
The initial reviews are very good buts it better to wait for the os to stabilize. For eg: there is no copy paste yet. Plus I am not sure if updates can be directly pushed or whether the respective manufacturers have to support it. That is exactly the same problem with Android phones. Even if an android update is release, all phones can’t use the update unless the phone’s manufacturer releases a compatible update.
That’s the best thing about the iPhone: Apple makes the hardware as well as the os. Instant update and compatibility is guaranteed.

I know it’s a long answer but I hope you got the point.

Bobby, this is an out-of-context question. Sorry for that. When i read from the database i am getting a BLOB data type FROM WHICH i can only retrieve a byte[]. I want this byte[] to be “casted” to a string without “converting” it into a string (since in fact it is an encrypted string). Do we have any Marshal function to do this or any way out. (You might ask to make an sql call, but i want to avoid the sql call). Thanks

@Jose As far as I can see, IsHandleCreated seems to be thread safe. Now, the Handle property is a different story. Trying to access it while the handle is not set will result in the handle being created, and if its done on a non UI thread, on the wrong thread! On a different note, along with IsHandleCreated it would be a good idea to check the IsDisposed property before updating the UI.

@Saeed Well its true that an older version of itunes cannot open a library created with a newer one. Why dont you just reimport all your songs and movies? (drag and drop) If you are missing your apps then copy them from your itunes folder, install the older version of itunes and then copy them back manually into the folder. By the way, when you say replaced, I hope you meant the you uninstalled the newer version and installed the new one. If you have a dual boot system and you are doing this just for the jailbreak then I suggest that you install the older version on the other OS and jailbreak from there.

Thank you Alex for the valuable information that I wasted a lot of time to figure last night. Everything you mentioned is 100% right. However; my problem is that I’ve downloaded the latest version of itunes (9.0) and when I’ve tried to replace it with the older version, the itunes library wouldn’t open because it was created by a newer version. I’ve tried to delete itunes and started over but the same problem still exists.

Can you advise how to overcome this problem?

@Anonymous I Suggest you get your console to a service station. If its under warranty get it replaced.
In spite of having a PS3, I got myself a DVD player recently. I hate to admit it but using a stand alone player is anytime faster that a console. The PS3 (or an XBOX for that matter) takes time to boot up… and you have to navigate the menu to get to the DVD.
A stand alone player? Pop in the DVD and you are good to go. Another very important advantage is resume after power loss. My Philips DVD player resumes exactly where it left off when it lost power. A PS3 is not always consistent in this regard. Sometimes its a few minutes off…. sometimes it even starts off at the very beginning! Of course, the PS3 as a blu ray player… thats a whole different ball game altogether. Who else gives a top notch blu ray player along with their (awesome) console? Not Microsoft.

For those of you having problems with the error "Unable to recognize specified IPSW". What I did was change the file extension on my zip file iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.zip from .zip to .ipsw. Then redsnow worked like a charm. hope this helps.

The only thing I would like to mention, if the worker thread is running, but the window was closed, you will get a runtime exception "Invoke or BeginInvoke cannot be called on a control until the window handle has been created". To avoid this, you need to write
if( this.IsHandleCreated )
this.Invoke(updateProgressDelegate);

instead of
this.Invoke(updateProgressDelegate )

It solves the problem.

Same for me but in my case it is worst! I had no noise problems whatsoever before. And one day suddenly, my PS3 is noisier than a train or a helicopter!
No matter if I disable the upscaling or not, no matter if It is a Blu-ray movie, DVD movie or game, the PS3 starts to scream after 60 seconds!
The PS3 is stored in a very ventilated open space, room temperature is 73F and there is no dust at all.
Sony sucks, I am going to sell this crap and buy a samsung blu-ray player and an XBox 360!!!

For iTunes to detect your phone you should be either using a valid SIM or an unlocked phone. Did you get a sim when you got the phone? When I got mine from ebay, the seller was kind enough to send the AT&T sim.

If you dont have the SIM then you will have to first unlock your existing OS first. You didn't mention the version of the OS you currently have on your phone. If it is 2.2.1 then I have included a link here which walks you through the steps.

If you have another version then just use Google to find the steps for unlocking.

Basically you will need QuickPwn, the two bin files I mentioned in this post and an older version of iTunes (NOT the latest one I have mentioned here; 8.0.2 I think)

After unlocking your existing OS you can then upgrade to 3.0 and follow my steps.

But Im having a problem – I cant get to the "Summary page" in iTunes to press the Restore button, the only thing I see there is "Welcome to your new iPhone" and I have to register it with AT&T, and when I try without the SIM, it recives me an error that it cant work without SIM and blablabla.. I would like to add some clarity to this issue. The fan only seems to kick in if you upscale hi-def movies, i.e movies with a high bit rates. Say, like Transformers, Iron man, Black hawk down. Try upscaling Schindler's list or Philadelphia; you can run through the whole movie without even a whisper from the console.
I wonder how stand alone DVD players with upscaling are handling this.

Looks like I have been down the same road as you. I thought I had cured the problem by disabling upscaling on the PS3, however the fan for me has started to kick in to Level 4 after 15 minutes, even at the menu.

I agree with you, something has caused this problem, it can only be the firmware update, as far as I'm concerned.

So far things are going quite smoothly I've noticed wifi reception seams poorer. As previously I could sit in my drive, however now I can only get 2/3 of the way there before I drop signal. Possibly something they are addressing in 3.1?

Quick update after downloading the files too many times to count(slept 2hrs in the last 24hrs). I decided to use OPERA instead of explorer (changing .zip to .ipsw) or firefox. It worked first time round perfectly as it should

Cheers Alex, I'm aware of that link and have read many confirmations that you can just point redsn0w to the 3.0 file. However having tried the download on 3 different computers now 1 running vista basic and the other two xp pro. I am still down to my original problem where the downloaded 3.0 file comes up with "Unable to recognize specified IPSW". All the main inks from the dev website iclarified and yours all point to the same link. Maybe apple have changed the file? Just getting a bit boring waiting 30-35min each time to find it still doesn't resolve the problem. There must be another mirror somewhere that has a good copy? Alternativelly if someone can confirm that the current download works and on what sort of operating system then I can try and seek that out as an option?

Sorry to hear that Jean.
Ok first of all redsn0w is designed for the 3.0 firmware NOT 3.0.1. So the first thing to do is to restore your phone to 3.0.
Connect your phone to itunes. Click shift+restore and select the ipsw that you downloaded from the link I specified.
After the restore is complete, just run redsn0w and continue.
I really dont see any reason for you to get that error if you downloaded it from

Maybe you could try downloading it using a different computer?

Hi Alex I've come across your site after tearing my hair out now for the last 14hrs with the "Unable to recognize specified IPSW" error. I've tried your link for the 2G 3.0 download (phone is currently upgraded to 3.0.1 via itunes update ) but the error is still occuring. If you have any more advice it would be great as so far I have tried 5 different ipsw file downloads and none are recognised. I even downloaded some 3g files just to make sure it wasn't my copy of redsn0w. i've tried both versions .71 and .72 on an xp and vista pc.

Thank you in advance for any further advice you could give.

I agree that media companies should consider new distribution modes. A CD is so passe these days. Distribution stores like iTunes is a start but not enough, specially in countries like India where there is NO online distribution of songs. You cant buy music online. Go figure!
But that doesn't justify the piracy. It is a very myopic way of looking at things.
That's like saying that just because your company didn't pay you this month's salary its OK to rob a bank.

Where did you download the file from? Make sure you download it from the link I have mentioned (which links to the apple site). If you have downloaded it from the mentioned link then you won't have the .zip extension. It will end with .ipsw

The phone ought to support it. The DST changes are handled automatically by the phone and I dont think there is a provision of setting it manually.
You can try contacting Apple about this but I am not sure how much it will help.
Alternatively, you can check the app store to see if there are world time apps available there.

after doing all this the phone still has the wrong time for St Barts (Gustavia). I rest the Iphone as described but the world clock still shows 7:32PM when it should show 10:32 AM ; the same as NY during the summer. they are an hour apart in the winter as ST. Barts does not use Day light savings time. How to we make them aware of this or fix it???

'apple iphone or any other iphone ' - eh? As far as I know, only Apple makes the iPhone.

Since this seems to be a firmware issue and since the firmware is the same for the iPhone 2g and the iPhone 3g, it would be safe to assume that the problem exists for both generations of the phone. I hope this is what you meant by your statement.

I am not sure what you meant by 'can i set this clock in this phone?'. The world clock application shown here is for the iPhone and is available only for the iPhone.
If you are facing the same problem on your HTC, then a similar fix might help. If this is indeed the problem, then let me know your phone model and I'll try to help.

I did not install IE8 using Windows update. I suggest you download the installation from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/Internet-explorer/default.aspxand try the installation manually.

Window express update installing several XP updates (35) including IE8 that is last one of the 35.

All 34 updates installed in reasonable time...but IE8 update is taking lots of time (more than 30min).
Install timeline bar doesn't seem to move and looks stuck.

Did you see this during IE8 install step?

I agree that ID is something of an odd one out and the rules are kinda flexible on that one.
But if you are trying to get your team to adopt some common convention I would rather draw the line somewhere.
Oh, and my usage of “ID” in the sentence… In normal English we wouldn’t write Id, it is usually ID and hence the usage. It was not in the programmatic sense.

I would contend that there is no dispute of the fact that ID is an abbreviation for identification. I think that the fact that you used "ID" and not "Id" in that sentence almost ends any argument. "ID" is an extremely popular way of abbreviating "identification," while "Id" is something I personally have never seen. However, if "Id" were the only way to abbreviate identification, we would have to revert to your next set of rules...

"Avoid abbreviations at all costs for variable names and methods."

In this case, we would have to use "batchIdentification."

Since "ID" is something of an odd duck (and such rules cannot be easily placed on it), I would prefer to leave it alone and type it as "batchID."

Bought it this Monday. The bundle was sold out at the store where I saw it. But got the game with the PS3 from another store – a Sony World.
There I saw that Sony was giving away an HDMI cable free with every home theater but not with the PS3 and another Blu-Ray player they sell.
I called up Sony and gave them a piece of my mind. They agreed to send me one. Must say very responsive customer service. I really didn’t expect them to listen to my gripe. Awaiting the cable before I hook up the PS3 and start gaming.
